Felix Adams, a 22-year-old petitioner, was given a four-month prison sentence by a Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for stealing several yam tubers from a school farm.
Adams, who does not have a fixed residence, was accused of stealing and criminal trespassing.
The defendant committed the act on October 19, according to Mr. Chinedu Ogada, the prosecution’s attorney, who testified in court.

According to Ogada, the criminal was caught and taken to Dutse Alhaji Station on the same day by the police patrol squad under the command of Mr. Tonushi Chibwa.
He claimed that around 10:00 p.m. on the same day, the patrol team apprehended the prisoner who was in possession of several yam tubers that were maybe stolen.
The prosecutor went on to say that the prisoner confessed to stealing the yam tubers from a farm near Government Day Secondary School in Dutse Alhaji during the police inquiry and questioning.
He informed the court that the prisoner had claimed that he had stolen the yam tubers with the goal of selling them, but that he had been caught in the act.
According to Ogada, the offence violates the Penal Code’s sections 348 and 287.
Judge Saminu Suleiman of the Area Court sentenced the offender to four months in jail with the possibility of a N10,000 fine.
Once he served his sentence, the judge issued a warning, ordering him to never again commit crimes.
