19 students from the Akwa Ibom State University, Mkpat-Enin, have been detained by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) agents in Akwa Ibom State for alleged online offenses.
The suspects were detained on Friday at Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge, two private hostels in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
Some of the suspects are suspected of participating in impersonation, fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions, and romance scams.
From them, several laptops and cell phones were retrieved.
The Commission also said that as soon as its inquiries were over, it will take the pupils to court.
