According to Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), seven out of 10 Nigerian students are engaged in cybercrimes.

This was disclosed by the head of the EFCC during a meeting at the Abuja headquarters of the Commission with a delegation from Daar Communication PLC.

Olukoyede called on the media to create programmes targeted at educating young people about the evils of criminal activity and voiced concerns over the startling rate of youth involvement in cybercrimes, according to a statement posted on the EFCC official X handle.

“We are counting on Daar Communications to educate our young people about the negative effects of cybercrime.” The fact that seven out of ten students today are implicated in cybercrimes is concerning.

These young people are the ones we are training to be tomorrow’s leaders. The media shouldn’t give up on educating people about the wrongs of these illegal activities.

Olokoyede’s statement comes weeks after 69 Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) students were detained by the EFCC for charges linked to fraud.
