Professor Sani Yahaya, the NNPP candidate for governor of Taraba State in the 2023 general election, has said that he and his group will appeal the decision of the electoral petitions tribunal.
The petition brought against the state’s current governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was dismissed by the tribunal last week.
Yahaya and the NNPP leadership had petitioned the state election petition tribunal to contest the governor’s victory on the grounds that the poll had been tainted by irregularities.
In an interview with the media on Wednesday in Jalingo, the state capital, he expressed displeasure with the decision and said he and his party had decided to appeal the decision to the Appeal Court, which will be sitting in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
We vehemently disagree with the tribunal’s ruling, he declared. We feel that the irregularities our team has discovered had a substantial impact on the outcome of the election.
He swore to keep working until justice was served as it should be.
Yahaya and the NNPP were invited to accept the tribunal’s decision in order to preserve the state’s hard-earned resources, and Governor Kefas and his deputy, Senator Haruna Manu, urged the aggrieved candidates to work together to propel the state to greater heights.
