Usman Okai Austin, a political activist from Kogi State, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its tardiness in appearing before the federal high court in the ongoing legal dispute involving former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Because the public’s trust is at risk, Okai charged the EFCC with maintaining its integrity.

He claims that Bello has manipulated the media to malign the anti-graft agency and frighten public people including as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He maintained that the people would not put up with any leniency on the part of the anti-corruption agency, which has already demonstrated its resolve to bring charges against Bello.

The political activist, who was born in Kogi, stated that it would be a betrayal of public trust to give in to media campaigns or political pressure.

He reminded the audience of the EFCC chairman’s vow to step down if Bello was not charged, adding that the agency has not followed through on the current arrest warrant even though they are aware of Bello’s whereabouts.

Speaking on the demands of the populace, Okay stated that Nigerians, particularly those in Kogi State, are excited to see what the EFCC will do in the former governor’s case.

In order to guarantee that justice is done, Okai emphasised that the EFCC must withstand political pressure and media bullying.
