Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi West, said that Yahaya Bello’s recent Kogi administration was the worst in the state and that the former governor now deserved a room in Kuje jail in Abuja.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s nominee for governor of Kogi last year, Melaye, charged Bello of blatantly exhibiting poor governance in an opinion article published on Saturday and headed “Yahaya Bello: The Termination of the Terminator.”
“The reality of tenures is captured in the Holy Word by God, the creator of the earth and the one who establishes and abolishes powers, kingdoms, and principalities. There is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.” After defiling the pure empire that God bestowed upon him eight years ago on a golden platter, Yahaya Bello must now confront this hard reality as he steps down from his position as governor of Kogi State.
“Dem bring sorrow, tears, and blood, their regular trade mark,” is a classic song by the late great Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and it perfectly captures the refrains of Bello’s disgraceful term. These typified the careless Kogi State government led by Yahaya Bello. The bitter tears of government servants watered the seeds of agony established in his early years of climb, and in the last days of his descent, the tears of traditional rulers washed away the harvest of his wickedness.
“After eight exhausting years under Yahaya Bello’s reign of terror and repression, the people of Kogi State will exhale with relief.Despite being a product of democratic kindness, the so-called “white lion” displayed military brutality along with beastliness. Either his way or the highway, as it were.
“This clarifies why he pursued me and those he deemed adversaries with fierce fury,” Melaye remarked.
The vocal PDP leader accused Bello of widespread corruption, but he also claimed that Bello sent people after him.
When compared to Yahaya Bello, the prodigal son is an angel. After he was accused of robbing Kogi State blind, he ought to be living in the opulent apartments in Kuje prison. To the glory of God, I have won 11 out of the 12 pointless cases he filed against me and been released from all of them.
“The people of Kogi had anticipated more social cohesiveness, particularly in terms of power sharing and state management, when the colourless lion took office. Throughout his government, he practiced unparalleled nepotism instead of exhibiting statesmanship. Not only has he elevated his relatives to ineptitude, but he has also left authority in his own region. It’s so awful that he built roads, medical facilities, and a university in his district, putting his region of the state unduly ahead of other regions in terms of social and infrastructure development.
He hastily founded a university in Kabba as a result of pressure from Kogi West opposition parties. Finding a university in Kabba is a relief from terror. Nonetheless, it won’t be long before the immediate and long-term motivations for founding the university materialise, given the rumours circulating that the lion who spends money claims to have spent N6B on it.
Kogi State needs to reinvent itself since Yahaya Bello is weaker in strength and grandeur. Prior to his assumption of office, Kogi had a strong reputation as a resource-rich state, especially in terms of minerals. This helped investors such as Dangote and Mangal choose Kogi State as the location for their companies.
Regretfully, Yahaya Bello has been successful in scaring off potential investors. Melaye proposed that the confrontation between the State Government and BUA, as well as the obstruction of activities at the Dangote Cement Factory in Obajana, are representative of the brand persona that the former lion represented.
