Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of peace negotiations recognized by both Russia and Ukraine as the most effective approach to resolving the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Xi highlighted the necessity of amending the global security architecture to bring an end to the fighting and prevent future hostilities, as reported by the Xinhua news outlet.

Xi expressed China’s support for an international peace conference with equal participation from all parties, emphasizing the need for fair discussions on all available options to broker peace talks.

The Chinese leader underscored the significance of addressing both the symptoms and root causes of the conflict, advocating for a balanced, effective, and sustainable new security architecture as the fundamental solution to the Ukraine crisis.

Despite Western pressure, Beijing has consistently refused to condemn Russia over the Ukraine conflict and has instead proposed a peace formula comprising 12 points, including the cessation of hostilities, mutual respect for national security concerns, and the rejection of a ‘Cold War’ mentality.

The capital of Ukraine has dismissed the proposed plan as unattainable due to its lack of a requirement for Russian forces to withdraw from areas claimed by Ukraine. Ukraine has consistently maintained that any peace agreement must adhere to its conditions, which encompass the return of all former Ukrainian territories, the removal of Russian military personnel, and the establishment of an international tribunal for Russian leadership.

Supporters of Kiev from the West are organizing a summit to address the conflict in Ukraine, scheduled to take place in Switzerland next month, with Russia not being included in the discussions. Beijing has not yet confirmed its participation in the summit.

Russia has expressed its approval of China’s peace proposal from the beginning, emphasizing its willingness to seek a political resolution to the conflict. In an interview with Xinhua before his trip to China, President Putin praised Beijing’s initiative as a demonstration of a sincere intention to help stabilize the situation in the region. He indicated his support for the plan, highlighting its emphasis on fostering dialogue that considers the interests of all parties involved, including Russia.
