“What does spending more than $1 billion mean? Consequently, despite all the promises made, things eventually returned to as they were.”

According to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential election would be the worst in Nigeria’s history and a blow to democracy.

The Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday that the election did not live up to expectations despite having a huge budget.

Because to the Election Law [Act] of 2022, which inspired such optimism, and the significant investment we made in technology, the previous governor of Anambra State claimed that this election was perhaps the worst in recent memory.

Do you understand what it means to spend more than $1 billion? Therefore, despite all the promises made, things eventually returned to as they were. That is damaging to me greatly.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was criticised by Obi for failing to communicate the presidential election results in real-time via its webpage, was accused of degrading the nation via the conduct of the 2023 election.

He insisted that “everyone paid so much stress on the legislation and the technology” and said that the exercise failed “when you promise so much and don’t even reach the basics”.

On the broadcast, Obi noted that whenever an election is declared internationally, it raises the society’s ratings.

He claims that the way the presidential election was conducted significantly diminished teenagers’ confidence in the process and their spirits.

But, the LP candidate, who has contested Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election’s victor, is certain that justice will be served.

We cannot continue in this manner, he added, adding that he was not personally upset or grieved but was concerned for his nation and the future it portended for the children and the next generation. We must create a better future for them and leave it to them.

According to Obi, justice will eventually be served.

Thus, he said, “Having gone through courts, numerous of them, I have not had any reason to question the court.
