He passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Hollies Care Home in Southport, England, where he lived.
This was announced in a statement by Guinness World Records on its website on Tuesday.
The statement announced, “Guinness World Records is saddened to hear about the passing of John Tinniswood, who was recognized as the world’s oldest man at 112 years old.”
He passed away yesterday, Monday, November 26th, at the care home in Southport, England where he lived.
In a statement to Guinness World Records, his family shared that “his final day was filled with music and love.”
In a statement issued this morning, John’s family announced with sadness that John Alfred Tinniswood passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25th, at the age of 112 in his care home in Southport. He spent his final day surrounded by music and love.
John had a habit of always expressing his gratitude. In that spirit, we extend heartfelt thanks on his behalf to everyone who cared for him throughout the years—his carers at Hollies Care Home, GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists, and other NHS staff. John’s life was one enveloped in love.
He was born on August 26, 1912, to Ada and John Bernard Tinniswood. Later in life, he married his late wife Blodwen Tinniswood, and together they had a daughter named Susan.
A dedicated Liverpool FC fan, he achieved worldwide fame in April 2024 when Guinness World Records officially recognized him as the world’s oldest man, succeeding Juan Vicente Pérez Mora who passed away at age 114.
John is survived by his daughter, Susan; his grandchildren Annouchka, Marisa, Toby, and Rupert; and his great-grandchildren Tabitha, Callum, and Nieve.
