The oldest dog in history, Bobi, passed away over the weekend just a few months after reaching his 31st birthday.
Bobi was regularly seen by veterinarian Dr Karen Becker, who posted on Facebook to share the news of the long-lived dog’s passing.
“Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings,” she penned in the heartfelt obituary. “Even though he outlived every dog in history, for those who loved him, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough. Good luck, Bobi…You have imparted to the world everything you intended to impart.

According to Guinness World Records, the purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo died on October 21 at his home in Conqueiros, Portugal, where he had spent his entire life with the Costa family.
Bobi was born on May 11, 1992, and at the time of his death, he was supposedly 31 years, 165 days old (the lifespan of a dog is 10–13 years).
The herding dog was recognised by Guinness as the oldest dog ever and the oldest dog alive in the world in February 2023.
“We see situations like this as a normal result of the life that they have, but Bobi is one of a kind,” owner Leonel Costa, 38, said after Bobi received his record.
The Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria, which first registered the dog in 1992, as well as the SIAC, Portugal’s National Union of Veterinarians, both attested to the Dog’s senior age.
Bluey, an Australian cattle dog, set the previous record and passed away in 1939 at the age of 29 years and 5 months.
