Alejandro Papu’ Gomez, the World Cup champion for Argentina, received a two-year suspension for failing a drug test when it was discovered that he had apparently taken children’s cough medicine in the weeks leading up to the competition.
Following a thrilling victory over France in the championship game’s penalty shootout, Gomez took home the trophy in December.
According to The Daily Mail, Gomez failed a test for a forbidden substance just before the November 2022 World Cup started.
He attributed the failed test on ingesting his children’s sick syrup without first seeking medical advice from Sevilla’s doctors after a restless night.

This justification, however, was not thought to be sufficient to exempt him from a ban.
He must now choose whether to appeal the decision in an effort to have his ban lessened or reversed.
After his contract with Sevilla was ended, Gomez signed on with Serie A team Monza as a free agent in October. He was with the team for two and a half years and last year they won the Europa League.
Gomez’s tenure at Atlanta from 2014 to 2021 is what made him most famous.
The winger guided the team into the Champions League for the first time in their history while making 252 appearances for the club and scoring 59 goals.
Early in 2021, he quit the Italian team after a disagreement with Gian Piero Gasperini.
