However, the defendant was given the choice by the court to forgo jail time and instead pay a fine of N500,000.
Yemisi had already entered a guilty plea to a single count of trafficking in Indian hemp unlawfully.
The charge document states that Yemisi committed the act on December 18, 2023, in the Agege neighbourhood of Lagos. There, it claims that she dealt illegally in 10 kg of Indian hemp.
The NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Law of the Federation (2004), was broken by the crime.
Following Yemisi’s entry of a plea, state prosecutor Mrs. N.J. Mamza went over the case’s facts with the court and submitted numerous exhibits.
Yemisi’s statement, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form, and the Indian hemp that was taken from the accused were among the exhibits.
Based on the facts presented by the prosecution and the defendant’s plea, Mamza requested the court to find the defendant guilty and to impose a sentence.
Chief Justice As a result, Daniel Osiagor found Yemisi guilty and sentenced her to three years in prison with the possibility of a N500,000 fine.
