Woman Remanded in Prison for Alleged Threats Against Seyi Tinubu
A Nigerian woman has been remanded in prison custody over allegations of issuing threats against Seyi Tinubu, sparking legal proceedings.
Olamide Thomas, who was charged with issuing death threats to Seyi Tinubu via social media, appeared before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday and was placed in custody.
The case, introduced by Inspector-General of Police Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, was presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite. Thomas confronted a three-count charge yet entered a plea of not guilty to all accusations.
Thomas was arrested on allegations of threatening Seyi Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police, and Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a viral video shared on social media.
The charge, designated as FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024 and filed on December 18, identified Thomas as the only defendant. At the hearing, Victor Okoye, representing the prosecution, expressed readiness for arraignment. Upon reading the charges aloud in court , Thomas reiterated her not-guilty plea.

Her attorney, T.J. Aondo, SAN, attempted to request bail orally; however, Justice Nwite required a formal written application. The judge postponed the trial until December 30 and assured that any submitted bail application would be reviewed without delay.
Thomas was required to stay at the Suleja Correctional Centre until his bail application is reviewed.
In the initial charge, Thomas was accused of sharing a video in Yoruba that purportedly stated, “Mr. Seyi Tinubu would die this year, and misfortune and calamity had befallen the Tinubu family,” with the alleged intent to intimidate and threaten him.
The second count accused her of making similar threats against Mr. Egbetokun, alleging he was in danger of violence or harm.
In the third count, Thomas is accused of making statements directed at Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, claiming that his children would die before him and asserting that “he will bury all his children in a single day.”
The reported actions breached Section 24(2)(a) of the amended Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act of 2024, which imposes penalties for these violations.
The trial proceeds while the court waits for an official bail application.
