Woman in Anambra Detained for Burning Nephew with Iron

In Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, a woman identified as Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe has been apprehended for purportedly subjecting her 13-year-old nephew to torture with a hot laundry iron.
On Monday, August 19th in the year 2024, the authorities acted on a video that surfaced on social media showcasing the victim and made an arrest.
Upon watching the video, Ify Obinabo – Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare in Anambra State – promptly interceded.
On Wednesday, August 21st, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu – the Commissioner’s media aide – released a statement declaring that a 38-year-old nurse from Ezinifite in Aguata LGA had stated she disciplined her nephew for theft.

Nzekwe made a stunning admission of utilizing heat from an iron meant for laundry to cause harm to the young boy, and further demonstrated negligence by failing to offer any medical assistance before imprisoning him.
The occurrence has incited fury among many people, particularly Commissioner Obinabo who voiced her rage while pledging that retribution will be given in behalf of the child victim.
The statement acknowledged that despite not having any children, the suspect had assumed responsibility for taking care of her nephew. At present, Nzekwe has been transferred to police custody for additional enquiry and is anticipated to be prosecuted in court.
The urgent need for stronger protections and a commitment to justice has been brought into focus by this unsettling event involving children becoming victims of heinous acts.
