Woman dies in Onitsha after being hit by truck

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday along the Onitsha-Asaba Bridge Head in Anambra, resulting in the loss of a woman’s life.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident to the press in Awka on Friday.

The crash involved a large articulated Mercedes Benz vehicle with the registration number NKE 25 LG. According to eyewitness reports, the vehicle experienced a brake failure, causing it to collide with pedestrians on the road.

Sadly, one female pedestrian lost her life, while two others sustained injuries. The FRSC rescue team promptly transported the injured victims to Toronto hospital in Onitsha and transferred the deceased to the hospital morgue.

In light of this tragic incident, Irelewuyi expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to ensure road safety.

He also urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations for the well-being of all road users.
