Woman Arrested with AK-47 Hidden in Bag of Garri
A woman has been arrested after police discovered an AK-47 and ammunition hidden in a bag of garri.
The Special Tactical Squad (STS) has arrested Hauwa Yusuf, a woman in her thirties, for concealing an AK-47 rifle and four magazines inside a bag of garri.
During a regular stop-and-search operation conducted along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, the arrest took place.
On Friday, at the STS Headquarters in Abuja, Muyiwa Adejobi who serves as a Public Relations Officer for the Police Force disclosed information about suspects during his presentation.
According to reports, Yusuf admitted that she had been directed by Aminu Basullube, a widely-feared bandit who has instilled terror throughout Katsina State, to retrieve weapons from the infamous Danum Madam Camp in the area.

According to Adejobi, STS officers stopped and apprehended Hauwa Yusuf from Dutsin-Ma LGA in Katsina State on August 14, 2024. The intelligence-led operation took place as she was traveling by Sienna bus from Nasarawa’s Lafia city towards Katsina via the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
When searched, a white bag containing garri concealed an AK-47 rifle along with four magazines were discovered among her belongings. Further questioning of Ms.Yusuf revealed that Aminu Basullube had assigned her to retrieve these weapons for him.
Yusuf asserted to journalists that she had no knowledge of the sack’s contents and believed it contained only millet. She stated, “I wasn’t aware there was a gun inside. I was requested to transport millet but instead received garri.
When I saw what was in the sack, fear overcame me. My payment for transporting the garri to Katsina totaled N130,000 with transportation expenses at N15,000; however, my mistake lay in failing to inquire further.”
Furthermore, it was revealed by Adejobi that STS officials carried out an independent inquiry in Igbowo located within the Oyo State on April 29th with regards to Musa Saidu’s actions.
After five years, Saidu returned to his Kaduna community only for it to be discovered that he was involved in cattle rustling.
Saidu confessed to utilizing the profits obtained from vending pilfered cattle for procuring livestocks and bikes, valued at several million naira. He elaborated that he resorted to wrongdoing upon his own cattle getting stolen but affirmed ceasing it after obtaining sufficient funds to go back home.
