The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has verified that two individuals were abducted by unidentified gunmen in Otu town, Oyo State, during the early hours of Saturday. Samuel Opabiyi, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC in the state, confirmed this information during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Saturday. Opabiyi stated that the police have taken over the investigation since it falls under their jurisdiction.

Otu is located in the Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state. The victims have been identified as Dayo Olayanju and Mrs Obasola, while Kehinde, Mrs Obasola’s husband, managed to escape with gunshot wounds.

A community leader in the local government area, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday and the victims were kidnapped in different areas, with one being taken on Okeho road.

The whereabouts of the kidnapped individuals remain unknown at present. Efforts to obtain a response from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in the state, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful as calls to his telephone line went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
