The defence chose not to question the witness during the trial. The prosecution then proceeded to call their fourth witness, an IT contractor, who testified that he was allegedly pressured by the management of CBN to pay $600,000 for a contract he had executed.
The witness stated that his company was awarded multiple contracts within the specified period, including an “enterprise storage and servers” contract in 2017.
He further revealed that after the contract was completed, he was approached by John Ikechukwu Ayoh, a former director at the Central Bank of Nigeria, who informed him that the management required something from the contract.
The witness claimed that Ayoh warned him that if he did not comply, the funds allocated for the contract would be utilized by the apex bank.
The court also heard the conclusion of John Ayoh’s testimony, who had previously admitted to collecting $600,000 as contract gratification on behalf of the former CBN Governor. In his latest testimony, Ayoh stated that he felt excluded by the former CBN governor and emphasized that his loyalty was to the bank and the Nigerian nation.
The trial continues with the defendants, Emefiele and his co-defendant, pleading not guilty to the charges.
