Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, three leaders in Afrobeats, took home the most awards at the 2022 All Africa Music Awards presented by the Africa Union (AFRIMA).
On that night, none of Africa’s brightest stars appeared.
Fans in the host city of Dakar, Senegal, were miffed when the trio accepted their awards out of town.
The self-proclaimed African Giant won the two major awards, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, while his fellow countryman and Grammy winner Wizkid took home the trophy for Best West African Male.
Davido won three golden microphones in the Best African Collaboration and Best African Electro categories.
The final winner of Nigerian descent was Tems, a former YBNL artist named Adekunle Gold.
In addition to sharing the Best African Pop award with Davido for their smash hit “High,” Adekunle Gold also won Best Artist in the African Contemporary category.
Tems received the Golden Microphone for Best Soundtrack for her contribution to the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” track.
