According to Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former national publicity secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), the defection of 27 lawmakers who were devoted to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), strengthens indications that the former governor is moving quickly towards layoffs.
In a statement made public, Eze claimed that the legislators in the state legislature are treated like furniture and that Wike gives them directives and prohibitions regardless of whether the activities they take align with the goals of the people whose mandate they represent.

He claimed that Wike, who had just boasted of having political structures in Rivers State, had shot himself in the foot due to his lack of moral character. In order to prevent him from drowning alone, he conscripted the 27 lawmakers who, according to him, had started the process of losing their seats under Section 109 of the constitution.
Obasanjo News24 reports that calls for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to hold an election to fill the 27 lawmakers’ vacant seats are already coming in from a variety of sources, including civil society organisations and legal experts. Eze added that when that occurs, none of the lawmakers will be able to return to the Assembly.
“Even though this is just a temporary greeting, allow me to officially welcome the 27 lawmakers to the malignant political party as stated by their principal, Nyesom Wike. Nyesom Wike previously compared the APC to stage four cancer, a sign that the party is nearing complete disintegration.”
“It is regrettable and depressing that a man who foresaw the party’s demise is being handled like a magician. No matter the circumstances, those of us who gave our blood and souls to support the APC will not stand by and let Wike and a few of his misguided allies ruin our party.
The party chieftain further encouraged the National Assembly to assume the legislative branch’s responsibilities immediately in light of the current state of affairs in the State in order to prevent additional harm to the state’s economy and reputation, particularly because the Governor must propose and approve his budget for 2024.
“If the National Assembly truly has the best interests of the State, South South, and democracy in mind, then this request is vital and ought to be taken very seriously very soon,” he continued.
Eze urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to acknowledge that it is no longer wise to play a gentleman’s game. He also said that the Governor needs to understand that it is time to formally depose Wike and take the fight to him.
For the benefit of the state as a whole and his administration, the former spokesman of the nPDP advised that Fubara should dissolve the state Exco and the LGA councils at this time.
He claimed that the dissolution will allow the governor to re-appoint members of the State EXCO who agree with his agenda.
Eze issued a warning, saying, “If he misses this opportunity, he should have himself to blame.”
