Wike, who is still in office as governor of Rivers, has reappointed his former commissioners – Eze claims

Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former national publicity secretary of the disbanded New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, has claimed that former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike is abusing his unrestricted power over the current leader, Sim Fubara.

Eze alleged that Wike did everything in his power to ensure that Fubara became his successor in a statement that was made available to media outlets in Port Harcourt.

He claimed that Wike is still in charge of making crucial decisions and doing important government business.

“Fubara must be alarmed that he remains responsible and accountable for every action taken on behalf of the state from May 29, 2023, when he assumed office, until such a time as the courts will abrogate his illegitimate reign,” he stated.

Fubara should be aware, he advised, that Wike won’t be questioned about what transpires in the state while it is being run by the current administration.

It is well known that Wike reappointed a few Commissioners who served under him to continue working with Sim Fubara, a protégé with no sense of self, Eze continued.

“Mr. Tammy Danagogo, who held the position of Secretary to Government (SSG) for eight wretched years during Wike’s administration, was also reinstated and sworn in as SSG, while Emeke Woke, Wike’s Chief of Staff, was downgraded to a Commissioner.

“All per Wike’s orders. All of Wike’s appointees were Fubara’s helpers, including his personal assistants.

No financial transaction in the government currently occurs without Wike’s knowledge and consent. In truth, former Governor Wike still chooses how much of the state’s federal allotment should be distributed to each local council.

Wike chooses how much the acting governor receives each month in addition to splitting the security vote with Fubara.

It is regrettable that Sim Fubara has been restrained by the unwilling reappointment of the majority of key figures from Wike’s eight-year misrule. In particular, the appointment of Chief Wike’s kinsman, Chief Chidi Amadi, a former Obio-Akpor Local Government PDP Chairman, as Chief of Staff is a clear indicator that the former Governor has cunningly succeeded in entrapping the political fortunes of the Ijaws of Rivers State

“With the appointment of Sim, a mere puppet who goes by the title of Governor but lacks the audacity to wield the necessary powers of the office, the Ijaws and the entire Riverine Area are being duped.

“Given the existing circumstances, only Wike is permitted to use the state-owned aircraft, whereas Sim Fubara, the governor, travels on charter planes for formal occasions.

Eze urged Sim Fubara to “brace up, tackle Wike’s crude desperation, and take full charge of the government for the very short time he will be serving as Governor,” noting that the defense of ignorance will be useless when he is asked to account for the decisions made during the brief time he will be in power.
