Wike Issues Ultimatum for Beggars to Leave Abuja Streets
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has given beggars in Abuja a strict ultimatum to vacate the streets, as part of efforts to restore order and improve the city’s appearance.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued an ultimatum for beggars to leave the streets of Abuja by October 27, 2024
Expressing concern about the increasing number of roadside beggars, Wike cautioned that anyone caught begging after the deadline would be arrested by enforcement agents.
During the commencement ceremony for constructing an access road to the new judges’ quarters in Katampe, he voiced his concerns.
Wike highlighted that the growing number of beggars was creating a security threat in the city, underscoring the urgent need for orderliness in the capital.

He also mentioned his recent decision to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for certain plots allocated to Julius Berger for the judges’ housing project. This revocation was aimed at streamlining the project’s development.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory mentioned that 70% of the funds for constructing the 40-unit housing project had already been disbursed, after receiving approval from the Federal Executive Council last month.
The housing units will be allocated as follows: 20 units to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and another 10 to the Court of Appeal.
The flag-off ceremony saw the attendance of notable figures such as Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, along with other dignitaries. This project is a component of a larger initiative aimed at improving infrastructure and security in Abuja.
