Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s decision to honor the invitation to attend Bola Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29 has the support of three governors.
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, announced on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, that governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had “seconded their decision and are actively working with them to actualize it.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is mobilizing heavily to attend the inauguration of President-Elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Eagle Square, Abuja,” said the statement from Isiguzoro.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo came to the realistic decision that there was no strategic advantage for Ndigbo in boycotting Tinubu’s inauguration. Instead, it would cause Ndigbo to be too isolated and give the appearance that they are at war with him (Tinubu).
For the avoidance of doubt, Ohanaeze wishes Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, well in exercising his legal and constitutional rights about the outcomes of the 2023 presidential election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
“However, Ohanaeze Ndigbo advises Ndigbo to uphold the law and refrain from confronting the Tinubu-led Federal Government. Ndigbo are future-oriented and would never engage in poor politics of resentment and animosity towards President-Elect Tinubu.
Ndigbo should learn to approach political problems in Nigeria from a holistic viewpoint rather than with fragmented feelings since the age of “nzogbu nzogbu” politics is finished.
“Boycotting the inauguration of Tinubu’s Federal Government of Nigeria would be foolish on the part of Ndigbo because it would be like cutting off our noses to spite our faces.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken are among the world leaders who have already congratulated Tinubu and are scheduled to attend his inauguration.
The Ohanaeze chieftain said that the three governors are keen to help Ohanaeze Ndigbo attend the inauguration and have “resolved to stick out their necks to ensure that Ndigbo are not isolated and left in the cold under Tinubu.”
