The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned Nyesom Wike over allegations of anti-party activities. Explore the implications of this political move.
The Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a formal summons for Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to appear before them.
Wike, a prominent figure in the party, has been accused of engaging in anti-party activities and thus summons have been issued.
During an appearance on Sunrise Daily on Monday, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP revealed this information.
Abdullahi conveyed his dismay regarding Wike’s recent warning to instigate political turmoil in states led by PDP members, specifically those that expressed their backing for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
He stressed that the remarks made by Wike were imprudent and had the potential to worsen any prevailing conflicts within the party.
To resolve internal conflicts and ensure discipline within the PDP, a Disciplinary Committee led by ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs High Chief Tom Ikimi has been established.
Despite the committee’s formation, it has already been criticized due to Wike’s associate Chief Bode George resigning in protest. He claimed that there was evidence of prejudice.

The conflict within the Rivers State PDP has been exacerbated by Wike’s recent weekend warnings to incite political unrest in states where governors back Fubara.
During a meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, the PDP Governors’ Forum announced their endorsement of Fubara. This has heightened the tension between Wike and those supporting Fubara’s bid to take charge of the party structure in Rivers State.
During the state congress of PDP in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike confidently addressed its stakeholders and emphasized that they will not lose control over the party’s structure as long as he lives. He also mentioned hearing about some governors’ plans to transfer ownership of the structure to someone else and expressed his sympathy for them, stating that if necessary, he would create chaos in their states. Furthermore, Wike criticized those who reject peace despite being blessed with it by God; such individuals recklessly seize whatever they desire without considering others’ rights or well-being.
Abdullahi disclosed that party members have filed complaints of alleged anti-party activities against Wike as part of their response.
Wike has been invited by the Disciplinary Committee to attend a formal hearing and address allegations against him. According to Abdullahi, they have received numerous complaints from various parts of the country regarding anti-party activities, which have all been combined into one case for review by High Chief Tom Ikimi’s committee. Wike is among those expected to present themselves before this committee.
He praised the present party leadership for demonstrating a strong commitment to fairness by allowing members an opportunity to express themselves before issuing any sanctions, distinguishing their approach from that of Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s previous administration.
Abdullahi stated that in regards to Wike’s recent warnings against governors regarding the Rivers State conflict, it is probable that he was targeting Bala Mohammed – both of whom hold positions within the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Abdullahi expressed his disappointment with Wike’s remarks and recommended that he exercise more caution when speaking. “His comment was quite disappointing; we didn’t anticipate him to utter such words, and we do not concur with him,” Abdullahi stated.
Abdullahi exuded reassurance in the face of the persisting struggle, confirming that despite it all, he believes PDP will prevail. He underscored their success with trickier matters before and stated that this current stalemate is simply another obstacle they’ll eventually conquer.
