The time for politics has passed, he said to reporters after his meeting with Tinubu at the Defence House in Abuja on Friday.

Because the time for politics is over, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is urging Nigerians to support President-elect Bola Tinubu.

To win the seat in the fiercely contested February election, Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The Rivers State governor, Wike, is pleading with Nigerians to support the new administration, which is scheduled to take office on May 29th, 2023, despite the fact that Wike is a PDP member (he did not back the party’s nominee but worked for Tinubu).

A Time for Governance

The election has passed. After meeting with Tinubu at the Defence House in Abuja on Friday, Wike told journalists that the winner had emerged and that all Nigerians needed to lend him the support he need for the good of Nigeria.

The governor continued, “I am certain he has what it takes to turn Nigeria around.

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, who was there with Wike, repeated the remarks made by his Rivers counterpart.

The governor of Oyo stated, “I came here to basically pay tribute to the President-elect and to let him know that elections are finished and now is [time for] governance and we would try our best to provide him support for the good governance of Nigeria.

After eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Makinde, Wike, and other PDP G-5 members steadfastly refused to support Atiku for president, arguing that the position should return to southern Nigeria.

They consequently claimed that Atiku, like Buhari, is unqualified to run for office, and that Wike and Makinde are supporting Tinubu in his place. Atiku is from northern Nigeria, much like Buhari.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, a G-5 member, supported Obi, a southern Nigerian from the Labour Party, but he failed in his bid for the Senate.
