Wike issues a stern warning to governors about meddling with the Rivers PDP structure, emphasizing potential political repercussions.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory has pledged to stir up political unrest in any state governed by a leader who meddles with the activities of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

During the state congress of the party, which took place on Saturday at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt, Wike made this statement.

“I want to assure all of you that nobody can take away the structure of PDP from us as long as we are alive. However, there are some governors who have expressed their intentions of taking over our structure and giving it to someone else. To those governors I say: be warned because if you try anything like that, I will cause chaos in your states.”

According to Wike, if God blesses you with peace and contentment but you still desire more possessions without restraint.

The minister pledged to cause governors who leave their states to compete with him in Rivers State, including Bauchi governor Bala Mohammed, significant anxiety and stress.

“I heard that they received money from a signature bonus and are getting arrogant about being able to interfere in my state. They should be ready because I am capable of reciprocating the same actions in their own state.”

He said, “I don’t care if you’re from Bauchi or any other state. If I catch you trying to establish yourself in Rivers State, your hand will be burned and you’ll never find rest in your own state.”

Wike has launched a verbal attack shortly after the PDP governors convened in Taraba State to address the ongoing dispute within their party involving key players such as the minister and governor of Rivers State.

On August 23, the Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed, reaffirmed their backing for Governor Siminalayi Fubara in a statement.

A review of the party congress outcome was requested to reinstate Fubara’s leadership position in the state.

The Forum acknowledges the political deadlock in Rivers State, wherein court rulings are utilized to determine the result of party congresses.

According to the communique, “The Governors under PDP reaffirm their support for Governor of Rivers State and will work with our party’s NWC to review the congress process in order to rectify any discrepancies. This will enable His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara assume his rightful position as leader of the party within the state.”

A crisis has erupted within the Rivers State PDP due to a rift between Wike and his predecessor Fubara.

During the Saturday congress held at the party’s secretariat in Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara was not present.

Along with the FCT minister, several past and present federal and state lawmakers as well as former council chairmen and loyal party members were in attendance.

The exercise was also monitored by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner and several other members of the commission.
