Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a warning against any attempt to meddle in Rivers’ political system.

Following a meeting behind closed doors on Wednesday in Abuja with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, which was chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Wike issued the warning.

The governors of Adamawa, Mr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Mr. Caleb Muftwang of the Plateau, and Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa were with Mohammed.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Rivers Assembly attempted to remove the current governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday, which sparked a crisis in the state.

As for his power in Rivers and his nomination by President Bola Tinubu as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike assured the visiting governors that he would not be frightened by anyone.

He clarified that the impeachment process followed the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution and was not a military takeover.

He called the rumours that he was involved in the state’s finances the “absolute rubbish” and denied that they were the cause of the argument.

“No one can scare me; no one can take away Rivers’ political system. I will take action if I feel like it.

“The impeachment is allowed by the constitution; it is not a military coup. Furthermore, I have no interest in any of the rumours, money, or other things. Unusual. Completely useless.

“It was just a few months ago that I left the office? Which money, since I am the FCT Minister? However, no one is able to abolish our political system. None at all.

“When you are unable to work, people will start to bring enemies—those who opposed you throughout your fight to hold office. That is never done.

“Don’t meddle in the state’s political system; I’m not a political ingrate. “I refuse to close my eyes,” declared Wike.

The minister emphasised that he was still a PDP member and not an APC employee while thanking the forum for the visit and President Tinubu for considering him worthy to be in his cabinet.

“Ignore the people who lost and thought I abandoned them, the Atikus and Obidients, and the people for whom I cancelled their Certificate of Occupancy.

“Oh!” Because I didn’t support Obi and they didn’t support their own presidential candidate, Wike took action. All of you just chanted “Wike! Wike! Wike!” together.

“My conscience is clear, I won’t do anything wrong, and I’m not disturbed.” I am not the person you believe you will now say anything and everything on social media.

“I can fight back, so you have to be careful,” he said.

Mohammed had already praised Wike for his readiness to mediate disputes, pointing out that the forum had become involved because to Rivers’ significance to the party.

He also congratulated the Tinubu for selecting one of their own to hold a position of authority, pointing out that Wike’s past shown his capacity for leadership. In NAN
