The governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, has apologized to Adams Oshiomhole, the former APC chairman, for his support of Godwin Obaseki’s reelection as governor of Edo.
In remarks made on Wednesday during the opening of the Rumuepirikom flyover in the state’s Obio-Akpor LGA, Wike said that he is now close with Oshiomhole.
Both Obaseki and Wike are governors running on the Peoples Democratic Party platform (PDP).
However, there was a conflict between the two PDP governors earlier in 2022, and it doesn’t appear like they are now on good terms.
At the inauguration, Wike told Oshiomhole that he had taken lessons from the past.
“I’d like to use this chance to apologize to you.
To make sure your candidate didn’t win the election, I traveled to Edo State.
And I was essentially in control, appearing on television each day to challenge you, added Wike.
“I told you that you wouldn’t win, and you didn’t.
Now that the task has been completed, we are aware of who is who.
“I want to apologize to you and inform my people.
Every time, you grow, you know.
When you help someone, others will compliment you.
They start saying all kinds of stuff the moment you tell them, “No, you’re incorrect.”
“I’m certain that people who were a part of my party in the past will reference Wike in whatever they say.
These are the same individuals who are applauding me day and night, but since I said, “Let the right thing be done, let agreement be agreement,” I have suddenly become a nobody and an enemy.
The governor of Rivers also alluded to the next elections, stating that Oshiomhole and the APC will be challenging him in Rivers at that time.
We are pals now.
Let the past go, Wike continued.
OBASEKI VS. WIKE: A DRAMA
It’s not the first time Wike has insulted Obaseki.
Obaseki was referred to as a “serial betrayal” by Wike in a statement he made in March regretting his support for him in the 2020 governor’s race.
Obaseki’s DNA contains treachery, serial betrayal, and ungraciousness, according to what Wike had previously claimed.
Obaseki, who was then a member of the APC, replaced Oshiomhole, who served as governor of Edo from 2008 to 2016.
However, the pair split, with Oshiomhole endorsing Osagie Ize-Iyamu for the APC platform’s governorship campaign.
Following his defection to the PDP, Obaseki received the party’s nomination and went on to win the race.
