Wike and Others Can’t Be Suspended by PDP for Anti-Party Activities, According to the Court
Wike and the G5, a group of four other PDP governors, actively campaigned against Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential nominee, on February 25.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been forbidden from suspending or exiling Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and PDP state executive members in Rivers State over suspected anti-party conduct by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
In his ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that Wike and other PDP members’ anxieties were justified and that suspending or expelling them would violate their rights to freedom of association.
The judge concluded by saying that it is within the court’s discretion to offer relief to those whose actions are well known to constitute a violation of their rights.
In accordance with the rules of the political party, the judge ruled that members cannot be suspended at will.
