According to the Labour Party’s leadership, Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, will never be persuaded to cooperate with President Bola Tinubu’s government of national unity.
Obiora Ifoh, the party’s national publicity secretary, and Kehinde Edun, its national legal adviser, each gave interviews in which they outlined the party’s viewpoint.
The announcement of the party’s position comes six days after the former governor of Anambra State disparaged the president on the “Morning Show” of Arise TV in response to the controversy surrounding his academic standing at Chicago State University.
According to Obi, a leader who lies about his background or age cannot be relied upon to act morally and is unqualified to serve as their leader.
We have reached the stage where we are challenging the process, and that must logically come to an end before anything else, he said. These are components of what a country is. More goes into the procedures that people go through to become elected officials than anything else. It’s crucial that people enter through the correct entrance rather than just throwing open the window and saying, “Let’s move on.”
“The issue of qualification is one of leaders’ actions and comments being sincere and truthful. Honour and honesty are at stake in this situation.
“If you look at what is going on in Nigeria right now, there are a lot of problems with certificates, issues with age, and all kinds of leaders that are lying about something or other. People cannot possibly do this and be able to act morally. That indicates that they are leading a false life.
A few days after Obi’s caustic remark, his party warned Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party not to include the candidate for the Liberation Party in his dispute with the president.

The party was responding to Atiku’s earlier appeal for Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join his crusade to expose the president’s alleged dirty secrets.
Some observers believed that Obi could prefer to deal with Tinubu over Atiku, his erstwhile PDP friend, based on the LP’s response.
The national legal adviser of LP, however, stressed that such a fantasy could never become a reality and reiterated that Obi has already made his position clear.
I believe Obi is chasing something, especially now that we are certain in our victory in the election, the man stated. Therefore, if we suddenly declare that we wish to cooperate with this government, it will be inappropriate. In terms of the LP, we are anticipating that the Supreme Court would overturn the judgement of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal declaring Obi the victor. We are anticipating that.
This is the reason why it is unacceptable to discuss Obi, the mandate’s owner, cooperating with a fictitious official. It is not over until we see how the Supreme Court resolves this case.
The party’s spokeswoman expressed a similar viewpoint, but maintained that the LP candidate cannot be sidetracked by such an idea because he is currently focused on regaining his “stolen mandate” from the supreme court.
“We are still working to get back the stolen mandate through our Supreme Court petition. Our candidate cannot possibly be seen as an employee of this administration. He remarked that for now his attention is on the appeal at the top.
