Governor Zulum reveals the rationale behind Northern governors’ request for President Tinubu to pause tax reform bills, citing regional economic concerns.

On Sunday, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum elaborated on the reasons why northern governors recommended that President Bola Tinubu retract the contentious tax reform bills.

The governor, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, stated that the Northern Governors Forum simply requires more time for consultation.

He contended that, despite suggestions from certain groups, the northern governors do not oppose President Tinubu’s administration.

He argues that the north cannot oppose Tinubu, given that over 60 percent of his votes in the 2023 general elections originated from this region.

Zulum clarified that if the bill is approved by the National Assembly, it would disadvantage other states because only Lagos State would significantly benefit from the policy.

In October, President Tinubu requested that the National Assembly approve and enact the bills into law.
