According to Nigerian singer and pastor Banky W, money isn’t the key to happiness, despite what the general public believes.
If wealth was the secret to happiness, he said, billionaires wouldn’t kill themselves.
He made this statement in the most recent episode of Hawa Magaji’s “Who’s In My House,” when he discussed his transition from a rock star to a clergyman.
“I really think that every human being is born with a godlessness emptiness.
He said, “And until you choose to fill the void with God, you can try filling it with money, fame, success, women or men, drugs, alcohol, and you will always come up short.”
“We frequently believe that the thing we are after is money, especially when we are young and just starting out.
Yes, it’s about money because success of a certain kind is necessary to be happy in life. If wealth was the secret to contentment, however, billionaires would never take their own lives.
Additionally, I was seated across from a billionaire who committed suicide—not in naira. I thought to myself at the moment, “Mehn, this guy has it made.”
This is not intended as criticism of those who have chosen that course of action, but rather as a reminder to all of us that what we are searching for is not money. The verse “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his own soul” states this reason.
“And I believe that around 2014 or 2015, I reached a point where, although appearing successful to the outside world, I was failing internally.”
