Why I “dragged” Pepe’s jersey — Finidi George
After the 4-0 defeat to Portugal on Thursday, Finidi George, Moses Simon, and Pepe faced criticism following a post-match altercation involving them. George has responded.
George was spotted begging for the same shirt as Moses Simon and Portuguese defender Pepe, and he didn’t appear to be very happy when he didn’t receive it.
George has since clarified that his son had asked him to buy Pepe’s or Ronaldo’s shirt because he (his son) was an avid supporter of both players during their time at Real Madrid.
My son, who is a huge Real Madrid fan, asked me two weeks ago whether it was feasible to obtain a Ronaldo or Pepe shirt while they were still playing for the team. I said that I would try.
“When we arrived on the field, we knew Ronaldo wouldn’t start because he was ill.
I thus asked Pepe in the tunnel if I might have the shirt for my son after the game.
He then assured me that was okay.
I went to remind him of what we discussed in the tunnel before the game when I spotted him changing his jersey with one of the players after the game.
“He claimed that I would undoubtedly receive the shirt and that he would give it to Super Eagles star Zaidu Sanusi who plays for his club, Porto.
He and I were conversing in Spanish just at that point.
As he had enough shirts left over from his playing days, Finidi said that his behaviour was not the result of being star-struck.
“People only seek to distort the truth and my motivation,”
“I had a lot of jerseys while I was playing, so I don’t need Pepe’s for myself.
What will I do with it after that?
There isn’t a museum here.
Simply said, my kid wanted to inquire since he is a great admirer.
“I took that action. I have no idea how buying anything for my son makes it popular on social media. Men, that’s insane! I believed that we needed to be discussing the match. But it seemed like I was popular. Added he.
The Super Eagles suffered their third consecutive defeat as a result of two goals in each half.
