Why I continue to consider Obaseki as a dear friend – Oshiomhole
Despite their disagreements in politics and party, state governor Godwin Obaseki, according to senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo and representative for the Edo North Senatorial District, is still a buddy.
While delivering his message of goodwill at the ongoing 2023 Alaghodaro Summit in Benin, Oshiomhole spoke.
“The Edo Story: Creating Shared Opportunities into the Future” is the theme for the conference.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Edo Government organises the Alaghodaro summit each year to commemorate Obaseki’s first anniversary as president in collaboration with the business community.
The state government typically takes advantage of the chance to highlight the advancements made in converting the state into a refuge for investors.
Thanking Obaseki for organising and inviting him to the Alaghodaro summit, Oshiomhole stated that the world should be aware that he and Obaseki were allies rather than rivals.
He said that having different beliefs or disagreeing doesn’t preclude us from being friends, but we still need to love and care for one another.
“No matter what individuals say, we shouldn’t convey the idea that having different options equates to going to war.
Leaders’ tears are not needed by the people; instead, they need to take decisive action to address the issues that the people are confronting.
As a governor, I am privileged to hold the highest regard for both the governor and the office of the governor.
It says a lot that all of the state’s elected civilian governors are in attendance today.
“While it is true that we are members of various political parties, Edo State is not the same as the total of those parties.”

This implies, in my opinion, that while we may pursue various political agendas, we will always share a common dedication to the people of the state that ought to be the greatest in Nigeria.
“For followers, a leader’s language counts. Ideology is what makes democracy what it is; it shouldn’t be a question of war, even if we take different paths to arrive at the same destination.
“I felt that Godwin is a friend of mine that the world ought to know.” It doesn’t matter; friendship is treating oneself with kindness and compassion as well as uniting our followers, not that we cannot argue or disagree.
“I’m glad that despite all of Nigeria’s problems, Nigeria is stronger than them,” he remarked.
Prior to this, Obaseki said that his administration had purposefully built a strong foundation for the future of the state and redesigned Edo for growth and development over the previous seven years.
The governor stated that institutional changes, economic revolution, social welfare, infrastructural development, environmental sustainability, and arts and culture were the six main pillars on which the government concentrated.
Obaseki stated that the audacious changes had improved millions of Edo people’s lives and set the state up for faster and more sustainable growth and development.
According to NAN, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Chief Lucky Igbinedion, the two previous governors of the state, were also in attendance.
Despite having distinct speaking slots throughout the event, both previous governors praised Obaseki for his outstanding accomplishments and forward-thinking leadership.
