Gov Mbah outlines compelling reasons for Finland to repatriate Simon Ekpa immediately, emphasizing the need for timely intervention.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has made a request to the Finnish government, asking them to hand over Simon Ekpa. The Finland-based individual states that he is a follower of Nnamdi Kanu.
Mbah condemned Ekpa for taking advantage of the plight of the Igbo people and using it to further his business interests. He advised residents in Southeast to pay no heed to any sit-at-home orders issued by him.
Expressing frustration, the governor accused Finland of persistently sheltering Ekpa who he believes to be accountable for inciting violence resulting in substantial casualties and property damage.
During a state visit to assess security measures and the ongoing construction of the Department of State Service (DSS) Training Institute in Awgu, remarks were shared with members of The House Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
The governor highlighted his administration’s dedication to lifting the sit-at-home directive imposed by non-state actors, which has taken a toll on the Southeast region both mentally and financially. He criticized Ekpa for leveraging local anxieties and conflicts for personal gain even though he is residing comfortably in Finland, known as a nation that values adherence to laws.
Mbah provided Enugu residents with reassurance that their safety is of utmost importance and urged them to disregard Ekpa’s threats. He confidently declared that his administration, aided by security forces, can uphold law enforcement and will not succumb to any form of intimidation.
It came as a surprise to the governor that despite allegations of inciting unrest in Nigeria, Ekpa was permitted by the Finnish government to stay in their country.
He encouraged the Committee to explore the issue and pursue Ekpa’s extradition for fairness.
