According to Solomon Dalung, a former minister of sports and youth development, former President Muhammadu Buhari is “living in regret” since his loyalists “dragged his name in the mud.”
Dalung, a government official under Buhari, added that the administration did not keep the promises made to Nigeria during the 2015 election campaign.
The former minister claimed in an interview with Media Trust Group-owned Trust Radio that he has a duty to speak the truth because he was a founding member of the party in power, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We failed to meet our expectations, and I am not being hypocritical because as a major stakeholder who vigorously campaigned in 2015 and went to the nooks and crannies of the north, of all the promises we made, we fulfilled none of them,” he said.
The political agreement we made with Nigerians during the election campaign stated that we would solve the security situation, overhaul the economy, and deal a major technological blow to corruption in order to reduce it to the absolute minimum.

Looking back, thinking about it, and assessing the current state of affairs, we failed horribly.
He characterised Buhari as a very sincere leader who trusted those around him but saw his name tarnished by them.
“He (Buhari) is a very honest individual who brought them and trusted them. He thought that everyone around him was an honest person. I think he’s living in remorse right now.
“They have reduced his image and dragged his name and integrity into the mud,” Dalung remarked.
Since “insecurity was not as bad as it is now,” the former minister thought that the APC’s rule between 2015 and 2019 made some moderate improvement.
In his words, “Banditry and terrorism got reduced in terms of attacks, but it’s still flourishing; the complete change of dynamics in the security situation is worse than it has ever been in the history of this country, and is a remarkable failure and indictment too on the APC, because these were not part of the democratic covenant they had with Nigerians.”
