According to Valentine Obienyem, a media assistant to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, the tape of his principal’s discussion with Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Winners Chapel, that was released was chopped out of context.
Moreover, Obienyem asserted that the leak was caused by “our Nnewi wayward brother.”
In the audio tape, Obi appeared to be pleading with Oyedepo to get Christians to support him in elections.
“Dad, I need you to talk to your folks in the South-West and Kwara, the Christians there. This is a religious conflict, Obi allegedly remarked in the viral tape.
But on Sunday, Obienyem said on Facebook: “The horribly doctored conservation with Bishop Oyedepo leaked by our Nnewi prodigal brother is the extent of what they have unearthed so far.”
“They cut out the Muslim-Muslim ticket that sparked the conversation, where Obi argued that in a country like ours, religion balance was an important concern and that their carelessness had caused Christians to conclude it was a religious battle.”
With Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as his running partners, the All Progressives Congress, APC, fielded a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
