Anambra State’s new chairman, Hon. Peter Okoye, has emerged amid the crisis engulfing the LP’s national leadership.

Hon. Ugochukwu Emeh has been fired, according to Okoye, who met with the new administration of the party.

He said that Emeh was dismissed as a result of being present at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting called by Barr Julius Abure, the party’s controversial national chairman.

He said that Okoye, together with other executives, had taken Emeh’s place as interim state chairman in Anambra State.

After meeting with his executive, Okoye informed the media in Awka. He stated that Abure is still the former national chairman of the LP and that Hon. Ugochukwu Emeh is no longer the state chairman of the LP in Anambra State.

“I just held a meeting to inform the members of my executive of what is going on at the national level in our great party. The Labour Party is still around. Due to falsification, perjury, and criminal actions within our party, Barr Julius Abure, our previous national chairman, was suspended.

“After Abure’s suspension, he went ahead and called the NEC meeting, which is contempt of court. The resolution said that everyone who attended the NEC meeting he called should be suspended, with the exception of the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate and the president-elect.

“As a result, I was chosen to take over as party chairman in Anambra from Hon. Ugochukwu Emeh. He was among those who went to the NEC meeting that Abure summoned in Asaba that was illegal. Everyone present today is a new member of the executive, and we shall serve for a period of six months, he stated.

Okoye continued, “We want to make it obvious that the story surrounding Apapa is incorrect. Tinubu is not funding him. Apapa opposes the long-running criminal activity in the party. He has been a member of the party for more than 21 years. Nobody is talking about the almost N400 million that is at stake.

“What is occurring is that the party is not against Peter Obi; rather, we are here to combat Abure’s poor management style because no one is above the law.

“The N400 million we’re talking about is party money that he (Abure) diverted to his own personal account.”

In response to questions from reporters over his supposed removal, Hon Emeh claimed that Okoye and his associates were looking to defraud gullible party members.

In addition to admonishing party members to keep their distance from Okoye, he asserted that he was still the state chairman.
