The development of satellite towns would receive appropriate attention, according to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

At the installation of Mandate Secretaries for the FCT Administration on Tuesday in Abuja, Wike made this statement.

He emphasised the need to make sure that all areas of the FCT experience progress and development by saying that the prosperity and well-being of the population extend beyond the city centre.

The newly appointed Mandate Secretaries are Mr. Bitrus Garki, Secretary of the Area Council Services Secretariat, Mr. Lawan Geidam, Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, and Mr. Danlami Ihayyo, Secretary of the Education Secretariat.

Others include Mr. Salman Dako, Secretary of the Legal Services Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Secretary of the Health and Environment Services Secretariat, and Mr. Chinedum Elechi, Secretary of Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership.

Mr. Uboku Nyah was also appointed Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat.

Wike emphasised the necessity for them to address problems impeding service delivery in the FCT Administration, notably the procurement process.

“Transparency, efficiency, and accountability must become the pillars of our administration,” he declared.

“As mandate secretaries, you play a critical part in this transformational path. You are our leaders and policy implementers in addition to being advisors.

“It is your responsibility to turn our vision into concrete steps that will influence the direction of the FCT.

“Our President has given us the enormous job of reconstructing and making the FCT a world-class metropolis.

“In order to do this, we must focus on a number of crucial issues that are vital to the development of our city and the welfare of our citizens.

He continued by saying that improving internally generated revenue (IGR) through creative methods of raising the money required to support the development agenda is a key component of the mission.

According to him, this is essential for funding ambitious projects and activities.

The minister pointed to public transport as a significant issue that requires all-encompassing attention.

He asserts that without a dependable and extensive public transit system, no contemporary city can operate effectively and efficiently.

He reaffirmed the Administration’s dedication to building a seamless, effective transit system that caters to local communities.

Regarding the environment, he stated that clear, well-kept surroundings were not just a reflection of a city’s pride, but also a necessary condition for a happy, healthy neighbourhood.

In order to achieve a cleaner and greener FCT, he stressed that it was the duty of both the government and the people as a whole.

To create a safe and secure atmosphere for everyone, the minister pledged to work closely with law enforcement authorities and local communities.

In addition to this, we will give the social sector a lot of attention. Our education, agriculture, and health sectors urgently need to be raised to elite levels.

“A healthy and educated populace is the cornerstone of any wealthy city, so we must give our people access to top-notch agricultural possibilities, healthcare, and education.

“In addition, the tourism industry in our country has enormous potential for job and economic growth.

He promised that “we will work hard to promote and develop our unique cultural and natural assets to attract both local and foreign visitors, thereby boosting our economy.”

According to Wike, non-compliant buildings would be subject to appropriate measures, such as removal and sanctions, and that all violations of the Abuja master plan will be dealt with firmly.

In order to close gaps that criminals can exploit to the harm of the Administration and the people of the FCT, he stressed that pertinent laws would also be carefully reviewed and strengthened. (NAN)
