The Taraba State government has decided to collaborate with the necessary organisations to guarantee that enterprises operating near border communities throughout the state abide by the applicable legal and regulatory standards.

On Thursday in Jalingo, Governor Agbu Kefas made this clear, stating that it can only be done if his administration improves its coordination with federal security organisations to ensure a coordinated approach to border security and resolving cross-border issues.

“We have collaborated with security agencies to address security challenges, but there is more work to be done to ensure the safety of our people,” Agbu said marking his first 100 days in office.

He emphasised the importance of security in Taraba and pledged that his administration will increase border surveillance throughout the state.

“We will increase the presence of security personnel along our borders and invest in cutting-edge surveillance technology to stop illegal activity and ensure the safety of our communities.”

In order to facilitate trade and economic progress, his government understands the value of ethical border business practises, he said. To that end, he pledged to build trade facilitation centres at strategic border crossing sites.

In order to combat smuggling and illegal trade, we will cooperate with the necessary agencies to make sure that companies operating close to our borders adhere to regulatory and customs standards.

Supporting lawful trade and economic activity will be greatly aided by investments in border infrastructure, such as roads and checkpoints.
