Assuring the safety of products on the market, fostering fair competition, and safeguarding consumers are the top priorities of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, or FCCPC.
The assurance was provided by FCCPC Acting Executive Chairman Dr. Adamu Abdullahi in a chat with reporters on Friday following the commission’s surveillance operation at a few steel businesses in the states of Ogun and Lagos.
According to him, intelligence and surveillance reports that the commission was able to receive showed that some businesses were engaging in anti-competitive activity.
For this reason, we made the decision to visit three of these businesses in order to assess how they operate, look over their documentation, and evaluate 10 of their offerings.

“Our goal is to uncover any fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading activities that may cause harm to consumers,” he declared.
As to his statement, a significant issue identified was the disparity in the product details.
For example, when customers buy 12mm rods, they commonly end up with 10mm rods instead, which adds to the regular building collapses that we see.
Abdullahi declared, “It is our fundamental duty to ensure the safety of our people, and these dishonest practices are unacceptable.”
He stressed the importance of openness and in-depth inspections.
“We are examining their procedures to see whether any are being shortened.
“We will apply the full extent of the law if we find evidence of such practices,” he continued.
