We understand that people are suffering, but we condemn warehouse looting – Adamawa Deputy Governor
Hundreds of citizens broke into public and private warehouses carrying wheat and other supplies and carted them away during the looting.
Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, has denounced the Sunday theft of warehouses in the state capital, Yola, including that of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Hundreds of citizens broke into public and private warehouses carrying wheat and other supplies and carted them away during the looting.
On Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, she responded to the incident by admitting that the government is aware of the people’s sufferings, but she condemned the looting.
“The government is acutely aware of the fact that our people are hungry and suffering.” We accept it, but we condemn what has occurred because it will not advance us.
“The government is still going to use funds now to repair those destroyed stores and warehouses.” And instead of doing what they did today, our kids may channel their energies into beneficial things,” Prof Farauta urged.
Following the looting on Sunday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri acted quickly, placing a 24-hour curfew on the state.
According to his aide, “the curfew followed the dangerous dimension hoodlums’ activities had assumed across the state capital as they attacked people with matches and broke into business premises and homes carting away property.”
Only individuals on vital jobs with legal identification would be allowed to go around during the curfew, according to Fintiri.
However, his deputy revealed that the curfew is being reviewed hourly, and that a thorough review of the situation with information from 21 local government areas and the state capital will be conducted by the early hours of Monday to make a final decision.
“Of course, we are aware that our people are farmers and that this is the rainy season.” “We can’t keep them indoors for too long because we’re an agrarian society,” the deputy governor explained.
