Parents and guardians of pupils attending public schools in Ekiti State are urged to report any principal, teacher, or member of staff who requests payment under any pretence right away to the state ministry of education.
Dr. (Mrs.) Bimpe Aderiye, the state’s commissioner for education, who made the call in Ado Ekiti, emphasised that the state government continues to provide free and mandatory education for children up to Senior Secondary 3, or SS3, and that no one is allowed to subtly collect money from the students.
Dr. Aderiye noted that teachers and administrators in all public secondary schools had received repeated warnings not to request or accept payments from students, but regrettably, allegedly affected parents had not heeded the call to report any requests for unauthorised levies or fees.
Aderiye reaffirmed the Biodun Oyebanji administration’s dedication to the welfare of the populace and said that the free education policy was implemented to make it simple for all school-age children to attend education and make sure they are well-prepared for adulthood.
Aderiye emphasised that the government ensures prompt payment of running grants to public primary and secondary school teachers as well as the full payment of the WAEC examination fees among other interventions, assuring that the administration remained committed to the provision of a conducive teaching and learning environment in schools in the State.
She urged parents and guardians to report any suspicious demands to the proper authorities right away in order to prevent themselves from being taken advantage of.
