The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Group of Five (G5) governors have decided to back one of the top candidates for president in the upcoming election, according to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
The G5 governors’ leader Wike announced that the favored candidate would be revealed in January.
On Thursday, he gave a speech at the opening of the Rumuokwurusi – Elimgbu Flyover (10th flyover), which is located in Rumuokwurusi Town, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
He urged his opponents in the PDP to hold off until January.
The governor urged the residents of the state to support him in the 2023 elections for governor, the National House of Representatives, and the House of Assembly, but to postpone voting until the presidential candidate is announced in January.
He claimed that a choice had been made on which presidential candidate would be supported in the upcoming 2023 election and that decision would be made public in January 2023.
Wike declared that he would travel the entire nation to rally support for the presidential candidate, not just in Rivers.
The governor promised to explain to Nigerians why his candidate was deserving of their support and why the opposition was unfit to lead the nation.
He claimed that in order to provide the necessary national transformation with the anticipated capabilities and outcomes, the people needed to be aware of a dependable and trusted candidate.
So, starting in January of the next year, Wike will run a campaign to inform his constituents of their voting options.
“So, wait, January has arrived, all of you who have been in suspense, who have been saying all kinds of things, and abusing me.
“I won’t just advise them where to vote; I’ll also travel from state to state and explain why they should support the candidates I believe they should support. Nothing will take place.
Wike stated that they would not support those individuals who had contradictory political views.
Those of you who have never been stable shifted from PDP to there and then back to PDP, he said.
“Those of you who ran for office in 2015 warned Nigerians against supporting the PDP because doing so would support insurgency and corruption.
We will all respond, “Wait. We’ll let Nigerians know what you said and how far you’ve come. Where are you standing right now? Is this a new PDP or the same PDP?
Wike emphasized that winning an election required more than just making an appearance on television, criticizing others, and talking large.
So please stop wasting your saliva again when you insult me on television, he said. It’s January now.
“All of you who are telling Nigerians that you once owned 40 pairs of shoes and 50 wristwatches must now exchange those possessions for votes.
It’s not to stand at the podium and lift your heels. And hold up your wristwatch. It is now necessary to convert them become voters.
According to PlatinumPost, the G5 governors demanded Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation as PDP national chairman while also refusing to support the party’s nominee, Atiku Abubakar.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Wike are the G5 governors.
