The DSS refutes claims of carrying out any operation at the NLC headquarters. Discover the details of their clarification.
Reports that the officers of the Department of States Service (DSS) had conducted a raid on the Abuja headquarters of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) have been denied by DSS.
On Wednesday, NLC accused the Service of sending armed men to its office and taking away some documents. The denial follows this accusation.
At approximately 8:30 pm, the Labour House was reportedly stormed by the operatives as per union sources.
“A statement by the NLC’s head of Media and Public Relations, Benson Upah reported that hundreds of books and other publications were carted away after breaking into the bookshop on the 2nd floor which was subsequently ransacked.”
“The invading troop stated that they were searching for seditious materials related to the #EndBadGovernance Protests.”
The NLC mentioned that it couldn’t promptly determine all the items removed from its offices.
On Thursday, Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the Service refuted allegations that its personnel were involved in vandalizing of the labor union’s office.
According to Afunanya, “Dear friends, please take note that the DSS did not conduct any operation at the NLC office in Abuja this morning.”
The NLC denounced the raid and urged for the prompt removal of security personnel from its headquarters.
According to the Nigeria Labour Congress, this is a new low in security operations within Nigeria and it deserves total condemnation. The NLC stated that armed security personnel invaded their premises during unholy hours of the night without presenting any legal document allowing them access.
Despite the bleak times of military governance, security agents never stormed and plundered NLC headquarters. The current state of affairs is certainly a melancholic setback to our democratic system.
