The LP presidential contender claimed that he is so adamant about switching the nation from consumption to production since it is necessary for their welfare.

According to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Nigeria cannot succeed in any endeavor unless workers’ welfare is given first priority.

This is why Obi is insistent on switching the nation from consumption to production, he said in a speech he delivered on Monday during the celebration of this year’s May Day festivities in Eagle Square, Abuja.

“Socioeconomic justice is today’s subject. When we talk about that, we talk about fairness for everyone,” Obi said the employees assembled for the yearly event held around the world to recognize workers’ accomplishments.

“All we want to do is establish a country where Nigerians will be glad to call themselves Nigerians, where people won’t have to struggle to leave the house, and where all of us employees will be able to claim that we are employed and content.

“Until the workers are employed, their welfare, and every other aspect of their well-being are attended to, and they are productive, we cannot get the economy or anything else straight. This is the reason we claim to be switching it from consumption to production.

He challenged you, the workers, to “continue what you are doing, continue to be law-abiding” in order to create a peaceful nation, adding that Nigerians have no other country, which he said citizens must create for their offspring.

The former governor of Anambra State expressed his gratitude to organized labor leaders for inviting him to the event, saying that as a worker himself, he was there in support of all employees.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the Ministers of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, were among the dignitaries that attended the ceremony with the workers.
