In accordance with the national order for a nationwide indefinite strike, the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has declared that it is ready for a complete closure.
In order to accomplish this, the State Administrative Council (SAC) and the State Executive Council (SEC) met on Thursday to discuss the problems and implement the order in Kogi State.
NLC Chairman Gabriel Amari told journalists in Lokoja that the talks to reach a consensus and organise the workforce for the indefinite strike were routine.
Amari urged the workforce to view the battle as herculean, emphasising the necessity of participating in it as a group.
He claimed that the situation in Kogi State was so pitiful because workers there were forced into utter poverty as a result of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
Governor Yahaya Bello was urged by the chairman of the labour union to act immediately to lessen the suffering of the state’s workers.
In the same way that he has done for past political office holders at the state and local government levels, he urged the governor to extend his hands of fellowship to the employees by paying leave bonuses, wage arrears, and executing promotions to date.
He exhorted workers to pray for brighter times ahead rather than give up because of the present economic difficulties.
Recall that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC and TUC had earlier declared that an indefinite nationwide strike would begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2023.
