Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party candidate for the just completed governorship election in Lagos State, has claimed that what took place in the state was a battle, not an election.
On Friday, Rhodes-Vivour stated on Arise Television’s morning show that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) accountability needed to increase throughout the election’s conduct.
Rhodes-Vivour declared, “Whatever way they want to colour it or module the waters, what occurred in Lagos was a war on Lagosians.
“There were Yoruba individuals in Ikoyi who were assaulted and harmed by thugs and hooligans who entered the area.
“Look at what happened with VCG as well, and INEC’s complicity in this process needs to be addressed so that if they want to try something different the next time, they would do things differently, give the impression of equity, fairness, and justice, not these brazing rip over democracy in Lagos State.”
The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was proclaimed the victor of the Lagos gubernatorial election by the INEC in March.
Sanwo-Olu received 762,134 votes in total, defeating Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who received 312,329 votes, and Abdulazeez Adeniran of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who received 62,449 votes.
