Benny Gantz, a centrist member of Israel’s war cabinet, has made it clear that he will resign from the government if it does not commit to a new action plan for Gaza by June 8.
This plan includes ending Hamas rule and achieving strategic goals such as bringing hostages home, demilitarizing the Palestinian enclave, and establishing an international civilian governance mechanism for Gaza.
Gantz emphasized that if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chooses the path of fanatics and leads the nation to the abyss, they will be forced to quit the government.
Netanyahu, on the other hand, dismissed Gantz’s ultimatum and stated that Gantz should be issuing an ultimatum to Hamas instead.
This development has further destabilized the emergency government that was formed after the incursion by the Palestinian militant group last October, which resulted in significant casualties and a retaliatory military response by Israel.
