WAEC reverses course and submits Abiodun’s score to the Ogun tribunal

At the Ogun State election petition tribunal on Friday, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) did a U-turn while presenting a certified true copy of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s results.

The examination body official from Lagos, Olufemi Olaleye, was summoned to appear before the tribunal in Isabo, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on July 20. This was reported by DAILY POST.

A copy of Abiodun’s certificate was required by the court, and Olaleye was meant to provide it, but he said he did not have it with him.

He explained to the tribunal that the reason he did not provide the needed certificate was “because the council does not keep duplicates of collected WAEC certificates.”

He said that “the original certificate given to the candidate will be forwarded to WAEC” for verification in order to determine whether or not someone participated in the exam.

Fasasi Adetunji Sarafa, a different examination council representative from the Abeokuta office, showed up at the tribunal on Friday, though, and presented what he claimed to be a certified true copy of Abiodun’s WAEC results.

According to Fasasi, a subpoena issued at the WAEC’s Lagos headquarters was the reason he was at the tribunal to represent the council.

The tribunal accepted the result copy as RA3 and then released the WAEC official.

In contrast to the respondents, who did not object to the paper, the petitioners’ attorney, Gordy Uche, protested, stating that they would save the information until the final addresses.

Our objection is quite severe. This doesn’t seem like a WAEC result, to judge by its outward appearance, said Uche.

Keep in mind that Abiodun was accused of forging his WAEC certificate by Ladi Adebutu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18 governorship election.
